Little Homesteaders Small Business Fair

Kids run their own vendor stands. Open to children ages 5-17. Have an idea for a small business? Now is the time to put your idea to good use. Any idea, such as selling handmade goods, garden produce, starting seedlings – either vegetable or flowers, networking babysitting, lawn mowing or house washing, etc.

The Small Business Fair will be at the Alhambra Township Park, State Route 140 in the Firemen Legion Building on Saturday, May 13. Contact Ashley at LHbusinessfair@gmail.com.

Center Schools PTO

The final meeting of the PTO for this school year will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, via Zoom. The Perfect Pastries Fundraiser brought in over $5,600. Thank you to all who ordered.

Alhambra Primary

This school year is quickly winding down. Alhambra Primary students finished up their Mini Marathon on May 5, with the students running a combined total of 1,365 miles.

May 8-12 will be celebrated as Teacher Appreciation week.

First-grade students will be going on their zoo field trip on May 22. Second- and third-grade classes will enjoy a movie field trip on May 23.

The last day of school for this school year will be on Thursday, May 25, with school being dismissed at 11:50 a.m.

Volunteer gardeners are encouraged to help with the student garden on June 8. The garden will need watering, weeding, planting and possibly harvesting of what has already been planted.

Hitz Home Tasting Bee

Hitz Home Annual Tasting Bee will be held Friday, June 2, at 1 p.m. in the Hitz Home Activity/Dining room. Guests are asked to bring a favorite appetizer, dish or dessert. Chicken salad, ham or roast beef sandwiches will be provided. Tickets to the event are $7 each. Raffle Prizes include, Hand quilted quilt, afghan, 10 winners will take home $25 gift cards from one of the following businesses: DK’s Market, Rural King, Amazon, Fainting Goat, Scooters, Rulers, Walmart, Maedges, Books-A-Million and Diamond Mineral Springs.

Community Club

Members of the Alhambra Community Club met Monday, May 1, at the Township building. Speaker for the evening was Mrs. Tally Vassier. She spoke on her hobby of making stuffed bears. During the year she enjoyed her hobby, she made over 1,700 bears in different sizes and materials.

The club received three applications for its yearly $500 scholarship. After reading the applications and noting that this year they were fortunate enough to be able to give out all three scholarships. Those receiving scholarships are:

  • Emma Brannon, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Brett Brannon. Emma will attend Greenville college to study Marketing and Sports.

  • Grace Hanvey, daughter of Clay and Gena Hanvey. Grace will attend Murray State in Kentucky to study Engineering.

  • Kylie Ketchum is the daughter of Kerry and Jessie Ketchum. Kylie will attend Western Kentucky University to study Agricultural Business.

Lunch Bunch Program

This program offers free lunches to all children in the Highland School District during the summer months. The Lunch Bunch committee is looking for donations to help with the program. Items needed are brown paper bags, 100% juice boxes or pouches, individual packs of chips or snacks. Items will be collected Sunday, May 28, at Salem Church. Nonperishable items may be dropped off and placed in the bin in the hallway. Call the church office 618-488-3215 if you would care to volunteer or need further information. Monetary donations will help provide sandwiches and fruit for the lunches.
