Harris Cemetery Memorial Day Service
There will be a special Memorial Day service held at Harris Cemetery in Alhambra at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27.
Harris Cemetery is located on Alhambra Road, approximately 1/2 mile south of State Route 140. This cemetery is not affiliated with any church and is operated by the Harris Cemetery Association.

Salem Cemetery Memorial Day Service
There will be a Memorial Day Worship service at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29.
Hitz Home Tasting Bee
Hitz Home Annual Tasting Bee will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, in the Hitz Home activity/dining room. Guests are asked to bring a favorite appetizer, dish or dessert. Chicken salad, ham or roast beef sandwiches will be provided. Tickets to the event are $7 each. Raffle prizes include, hand-quilted quilt, afghan; 10 winners will take home $25 gift cards from one of the following businesses: DK’s Market, Rural King, Amazon, Fainting Goat, Scooters, Rulers, Walmart, Maedges, Books-A-Million and Diamond Mineral Springs.
Alhambra Fire Department Gun Raffle
Alhambra volunteer firemen will sell their annual Fire Department Raffle tickets from now until Aug. 5. Proceeds from these raffles help to purchase and maintain much-needed equipment.
This year’s raffle tickets include: first prize - Winchester Wildcat 22; second prize - Savage Axis 11 223; third prize - Winchester SXP 20 gauge; fourth prize - $200 cash; fifth prize- $100 cash. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25.
You must be 18 years or older in order to buy a ticket and legally allowed to purchase a firearm.
Lunch Bunch Program
This program offers free lunches to all children in the Highland School District during the summer months. The Lunch Bunch committee is looking for donations to help with the program. Items needed are brown paper bags, 100% juice boxes or pouches, individual packs of chips or snacks. Items will be collected Sunday, May 28, at Salem Church. Nonperishable items may be dropped off and placed in the bin in the hallway. Call the church office 618-488-3215 if you would care to volunteer or need further information. Monetary donations will help provide sandwiches and fruit for the lunches.
Alhambra Primary Garden Day
Volunteers are needed to tend to the student garden at Alhambra Primary. A work day is planned for Thursday, June 8 from 6-7 p.m. Water and snacks will be provided. People are needed to help water, weed, plant and harvest anything left in the vegetable garden. Bring garden tools, bags and gloves. RSVP Sarah 618-344-4230 or email ruth1@illinois.edu.
