Alhambra Community Club
The Community Club met on Monday, June 5, at the Alhambra Township Center.
The sale of watermelons and cantaloupe was discussed. They will begin selling sometime in July. Kylie Ketchum was presented with her scholarship from the club as she was not able to be at the May meeting. Quilt raffle tickets were distributed, and members will be selling them from July to December. The drawing will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5.
It was decided to have a dessert stand at the homecoming in August.
The Community Club always welcomes visitors and new members. Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month. The meetings are held at the Township Center on 101 East Main, Alhambra. Meetings begin at 6 p.m.
Alhambra Fire Department Gun Raffle
Alhambra volunteer firemen will sell their annual fire department raffle tickets from now until Saturday, Aug. 5. Proceeds from the raffle help purchase and maintain much needed equipment.
This year’s raffle tickets will include : first prize - Winchester Wildcat 22; second prize - Savage Axis 11 223; third prize - Winchester SXP 20 gauge; fourth prize - $200 cash and fifth prize - $100 cash. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25.
You must be 18 years or older in order to buy a ticket and legally allowed to purchase a firearm.
Salem Church Exhale Car Wash
Salem United Church of Christ Youth Group “Exhale” will hold a car wash behind the bank building Tuesday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will be used to fund the group’s mission trips.
Salem Exhale Group under the direction of Becca Resillez will travel to Mayfield, Kentucky, to help clean up after devastating tornadoes destroyed many homes in the community this past spring. Nine high school-age young people will help clean up and repair damage to yards, basements and homes. Middle school members of Exhale will go to Shannondale, Missouri, and help clean up the camp grounds of any downed limbs and clean up grass and weeds.
Alhambra Homecoming
Alhambra Jaycees are bringing back the homecoming and combining it with their AG Day celebration Aug. 4-5.
Food Pantry
Highland Food Pantry is in need of a few volunteers willing to help at the pantry a couple times a year. Call Rick Porter at 618-978-8765 if interested in helping those in need.
Highland Pantry is in need of condiments, personal care items, school supplies, such as, dry erase markers, Post-It notes, clipboards, Clorox wipes, Kleenex and paper towels.
Hamel Food Pantry is in need of canned goods, peas, carrots, mixed vegetables, diced tomatoes, fruit cocktail, potatoes, cereal, pancake mix and syrup, jelly, coffee, sugar, flour, Ramen noodles, Hamburger Helper, pasta sauce, cooking oil, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, dish and laundry bars of soap, empty egg cartons and detergent.
