Salem Church Vacation Bible School

Salem VBS will be held every Sunday morning from Aug. 6 through Sept. 3. Children are invited to attend Salem Church at 9 a.m. and after the “Time with Children” at 9:15 a.m. they will go to the Sunday School for Vacation Bible School.

This year’s theme is Food Truck Party: On a Roll with God.

This year’s Summer Serenade — formerly Music Under the Stars — will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 16, in the upstairs Parish Hall. The public is invited. Popcorn and bottled water will be provided. This is a free event; people can bring their own chairs and sit back and enjoy an evening of fellowship and musical entertainment.

Men’s Fellowship and Women’s Guild will not meet in July, but the Corn Roast is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.

The Men’s Choir will sing during worship service Sunday, July 30, and Women’s Choir will sing at the Sunday, Aug. 13, service.

Food Pantry Needs

The Highland Food Pantry needs condiments, personal care items and school supplies including dry erase markers, post it notes, clipboards, Clorox Wipes, Kleenex and paper towels.

The Hamel Food Pantry needs canned good of carrots, peas, mixed vegetables, fruit cocktail, diced tomatoes, cereal, syrup and pancake mix, jelly, coffee, potatoes, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, pasta sauce, Hamburger Helper, Ramen Noodles, sugar, flour, cooking oil, detergents (laundry/dish), toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, toilet paper, bars of soap, plastic bags and empty egg cartons.

Alhambra Fire Department

The Alhambra Volunteer Fire Department is always ready to welcome and train any young person at least 18 years of age interested in joining the fire department. Volunteers are always in great demand to be trained so they are ready when an emergency arises.

Alhambra Fire Department Gun Raffle

Alhambra Volunteer firemen will be selling their annual fire department raffle tickets from now until Saturday, Aug. 5. Proceeds from these raffles help to purchase and maintain much needed equipment.

This year’s raffle tickets will include: First prize, Winchester Wildcat 22; second prize, Savage Axis 11 223; third prize, Winchester SXP 20 gauge; fourth prize, $200 cash; and fifth prize, $100 cash. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25.

Entrants must be be 18 years or older in order to buy a ticket and legally allowed to purchase a firearm.

Alhambra Homecoming

Alhambra’s Homecoming will return Friday, Aug. 4, and Saturday, Aug. 5. Saturday night the parade will begin at 6 p.m. The Gusto will provide music Friday night on Benders and Backroads will provide the music Saturday night. A bounce house will be on site for the little ones both nights.

Tractors and classic cars are on display and the event also will feature a Model Train Show.

Enjoy fried chicken, fish, hamburgers, BBQ pork steaks, homemade desserts, ice cream and so much more. Enjoy a cold beer, soda, or bottle of water.

Saturday will include a Tractor Drive from 9-11 a.m. and the Car Cruise will be at noon. The Pedal Car Tractor Pull will start at 1 p.m.
