Alhambra Fire Department Heat Advisory

The next several days the area will be experiencing extreme heat. Temperatures will vary, but please take these precautions when working outside:

  • Drink a lot of water while outdoors or drink an electrolyte drink such as Gatorade. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and carbonated drinks.

  • Take as many breaks as needed.

  • Watch out for your fellow workers.

  • If you stop sweating, find shade and take a break immediately as you are about to overheat.

  • If you experience someone passing out or overheating please call 911 immediately. Take care of yourself. Know your limits, and watch yourself and others closely. Take precautions and stay safe.

Alhambra Homecoming

Friday, Aug. 4, and Saturday, Aug. 5, will be the return of the Alhambra Homecoming.

  • Friday night band - The Gusto

  • Saturday night Band - Benders and Backroads

  • Parade - 6 p.m. Saturday

  • Tractor and Classic Car Display

  • Tractor Drive - 9-11 a.m. Saturday

  • Car Cruise - noon Saturday

  • Pedal Car Tractor Pull - 1 p.m. Saturday

  • Model Train Show

  • Fried chicken, fish, hamburgers, pork steaks, homemade desserts, ice cream, cold beer, soda and water will be available.

Alhambra Fire Department Gun Raffle

The drawing takes place Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Alhambra Homecoming.

Alhambra Volunteer firemen will sell their annual Fire Department Raffle tickets from now until Saturday, Aug. 5.

Proceeds from these raffles help to purchase and maintain much needed equipment.

This year’s raffle prizes include: first prize - Winchester Wildcat 22; second prize - Savage Axis 11 223; third prize - Winchester SXP 20 gauge; fourth prize - $200 cash, and fifth prize - $100 cash. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25.

You must be 18 years or older in order to buy a ticket and legally allowed to purchase a firearm.

Commemorative 175th T-Shirts

The 175th Jubilee Committee is now selling commemorative T-shirts with the 175th logo on them. Shirts come in blue or green with sizes small to extra large for $15 and 2XL for $16.

Other sizes may be ordered if needed. Payment may be made by cash or check.

Contact Jessica Take 618-410-3058 to purchase. Shirts will also be available for purchase at the Alhambra Homecoming Aug. 4-5.

Pre-K Screening

Children ages 3-5 are encouraged to get screened. This screening will help to determine if a child would benefit from early childhood classes.

Parents that have their children screen are under no obligation to sign the child up for school. If interested in having a child screen call the Highland Primary office to schedule an appointment.

Scheduling times and dates are as follows:

  • 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15;

  • 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 16;

  • 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 22;

  • 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 18.
