Alhambra news, Sept. 13 edition

Pre-K Screening

Children ages 3-5 are encouraged to get screened. This screening will help to determine if a child would benefit from early childhood classes.

Parents that have their children screened are under no obligation to sign the child up for school.

If interested in having a child screened, call the Highland Primary office to schedule an appointment.

Scheduling times and dates are as follows:

  • 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 22

  • 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 18

Free Flu Shots Available Soon

Alhambra Township will be offering free flu shots to the residents of Alhambra and Alhambra Township.

The shots will be given at the Township Fireman’s Hall 3-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9.

High-dose vaccines will be provided to seniors. Children ages 6 months and older are also eligible.

For those with difficulties walking, a drive up is available.

Call Gail Ohren at 618-830-1384 to set up a time for someone to come out to your vehicle and administer your shot.

Haunted House

The Salem Church Exhale Youth Group will host a Haunted House at the Madison County Fairgrounds in the cattle barns. This event will take place:

  • 7-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28;

  • 7-10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Admission is $5. Proceeds will go towards Exhale Youth Groups Mission Trips

Blessing of the Stuffed Animals

Salem Church invites all young children to bring their favorite stuffed animal to church Sunday, Sept. 17. The animals will receive a special blessing during the worship service.

Food Pantry Needs

Highland Food Pantry is in need of Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper and Chicken Helper.

Hamel Bread of Life Pantry is in need of canned goods of carrots, peas, mixed vegetables, diced tomatoes, fruit cocktail and condiments: mayonnaise, cooking oil, mustard and catsup.

Other items include pasta sauce, Ramen Noodles, Hamburger Helper, breakfast items: cereal, pancake mix, syrup, jelly, coffee, sugar and flour.

Toothpaste, toothbrushes, bars of soap, toilet paper, dish detergent, laundry detergent, empty egg cartons and plastic bags are also needed.
