Scott and Brandi Schuetz of Highland have been showing paint horses for five years. This year is shaping up to be a great year for this show team.

The Schuetzes attended the Pinto World Championships June 8-20 at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa, Okla. Throughout the 13-day event, there were multiple fun events taking place every day after show classes from eight countries and every state in the U.S. with entries well over 3,000 horses.

The Schuetzes took two horses to the show, a 3-year-old American Paint Horse Association (APHA) superior and multiple honor roll champion mare, “Sheza Priceless Star,” and a 3-year-old APHA superior gelding, “Bar Rescue.” Both competed in the amateur and open halter classes. To be an amateur, the exhibitor can’t receive any money for preforming horse-related services.

The first horse showed was Sheza Priceless Star, and she received an overall placing of a third.

Next up was Bar Rescue in the 3-year-old geldings class.

“I was not sure what was going to happen. There were some big names in the class like, Judy Ford, who just purchased a horse for over six figures. I was not sure how we were going to do. I was hoping for top five,” Scott Schuetz said.

However, Bar Rescue did much better than that.

“I looked back over my shoulder at my wife sitting in the stands as they began calling the placing starting with 10th and going backwards, when they called third, I figured I was second and went and gave the other exhibitor, Robin Robinette of Indiana, a hug But when they called her for second, I about passed out right then and there. I could not believe it. I had won the world show.

“Less than 10 halter horses a year receive this custom-made buckle, and all the prestige that goes along with it, and I was one of them. I could not have done it without the support of my friends, family, and South Central FS and Purina Feeds, my sponsor. I am so excited to see what the rest of the year will bring,” Schuetz said.
