Chief John Markus cautions everyone about burning during some of these windier days.

Even with the recent rain, brush fires can get out of hand very quickly.

Please do not throw lit cigarette butts out of car windows when driving.

St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church

The next Altar Society meeting will be Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m.

The annual Chicken Dinner will be held Sunday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This will be mainly carryout, but limited dine-in seating will be available.

The menu will be: ½ chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, slaw, cake, tea and water. The cost will be $15.

Easter Lilies to honor or in memory of a loved one may be ordered by contacting Mary Lou at 618-651-1167.

The cost is $10, and the deadline for ordering is March 10. Please let Mary Lou know if this is in honor or in memory and the person’s name.

Also include the name of the person/family buying the lily.

Grantfork UCC members commend Jack Grotefendt for earning his Eagle Scout Badge for completing his project of cleaning the headstone at the Grantfork UCC Cemetery and organizing scouts to help in the restoration.

Jack is the son of Brad and Liz Grotefendt.

The annual appreciation dinner has been rescheduled for April 14 following the church service.

It will be the same menu as before with the exception of German potato salad instead of mashed potatoes.

Gift Youth Group collected and donated 50 cans of soup and $266 for the HACSM Food Pantry.

The group also prepared and served a free spaghetti dinner for the congregation with an afternoon of bingo.
