Spring Storms
Some of the spring storms bring fast and furious rains that the ground cannot soak up right away.
This can cause some serious flooding.
Be aware when coming over a slight incline in the road that as you go onward the road can suddenly be flooded.
It is not safe to drive through flooded roads. Turn around and when safe to do so let law enforcement know about the flooded road.
St. Gertrude’s Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary members will hold a fundraiser with Show Me Dough fundraising and are selling butter braids, cookie dough and pizza.
The Auxiliary will take orders through the weekend of April 20-21.

Proceeds will be used to raise money for seminarians and other charities.
St. Gertrude’s Chicken Dinner
The annual Chicken Dinner will be held Sunday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This will be mainly carryout, but limited dine-in seating will be available.
The menu will be ½ chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, slaw, cake, tea and water. The cost is $15.
The committee is accepting donations for the Chicken Dinner Raffle at this time.

First Communion/Confirmation Recognition Mass
St. Gertrude’s third-grade PSR class’s Cooper Dressler, Kinslei Kappand and Mya McElrpy received the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation at the Cathedral in Springfield last Saturday.
On Sunday, April 7, IC and STG held the First Communion/Confirmation Recognition Mass with refreshments in the parish hall afterwards.
Bocce Tournament
There is still a need for a few more bocce ball teams.
Come join the fun on May 4 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Grantfork Bowl, 302 E. Pocahontas Road in Highland.
The cost of the tournament is $40 per team with four persons per team. Pay at the time of sign up. Make checks to Grantfork Bowl.
This is a men/women mixed double elimination until the final six teams.
Brackets will be posted by April 27 with teams starting times. Check in 30 minutes prior to your match.
The sign-up deadline is April 20.

Electronic Disposal
Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., CJD E-Cycling will accept anything with a cord.
This includes all TV models, home electronics, computers, monitors, small appliances, air conditioner units, washers/dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, furnaces, lawn equipment and lead acid batteries.
This is free for all Madison County residents. Appointments are required. Email recycling@MadisonCountyIL.Gov or call 618-296-5327 to register.
