Alhambra News for the week of Aug. 6

Many flags donated to village

The village has received a large number of flags, and the names of those who donated, and if the donation was made in honor / memory of a loved one, will be in next week’s column. If you would like to donate a flag, make a check out to Freddie Riepshoff and leave it at the village hall. If you have a flag to donate, it may be left at the hall also. Please leave the name of donor and if it is being given in memory/honor of loved one.

Community Club meets

The Alhambra Community Club met on Monday, July 27 at Maedge’s Restaurant in Alhambra.

The meeting was called to order by president John Ernst. The Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer were said before beginning the meeting. There were 24 members attending the meeting.

Gail Ohren entered the meeting and asked for floor time to show the members the street banners the township would like to put up along Main Street. These will hang on the power poles, but will not interfere with the U.S. flags that are put up on holidays. Ohren asked the club if it would be interested in contributing enough to buy a couple of the banners. They are $65 each.

Ron Mindrup mentioned donating $200 toward the banners, and Freddie Riepshoff said it $260 was, they could purchase four banners. It was voted to give the amount for the four banners.

Riepshoff mentioned that the village is running a flag drive to keep up the supply of U.S. flags and that there is a couple more weeks to go if anyone wished to purchase or donate a flag. A couple of different people said they would look into getting different organizations to donate toward the flag drive.

Vernon Mindrup reported that, due to a health issue, he and Marie will have to give up the Welcome Wagon. At this time, the club is looking for someone to take it over.

Ron Mindrup will go sometime in the next week to buy melons to sell. This is always a good fund raiser.

Rodney Knackstedt said they are still working on the scholarship the Community Club will be giving out. This scholarship will be for anyone from the Alhambra area that is going to school for continuing education. The scholarship amount will be $500. Call Knackstedt at (618) 772-9208 for further information.

The committee for the prettiest yard is still meeting to decide who has the nicest looking yard in town. The winner will receive a check for $25.
