Fire department fish fry was a great success

The New Douglas Fire Department fish fry was a great success.

The department would like to thank all who volunteered to make the event possible. The department would also like to thank everyone who stopped by to support the organization by purchasing meals.

Money raised from the fish fry will go toward purchasing necessary equipment and equipment maintenance.

The department looks forward to inviting everyone to its next fundraiser in November, a pancake and sausage breakfast. The date is yet to be determined.

Henry rifle to be raffled at Car and Motorcycle Show/Craft Fair & Chili Cook-off

New Douglas’ annual Car and Motorcycle Show/Craft Fair & Chili Cook-off to be held Saturday, Sept. 12 at New Douglas Township Park.

Car and Motorcycle Show registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Judging from noon to 3 p.m. Awards will be handed out at 4 p.m.

Chili registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Chili judging begins at noon.

Funds raised will support the restoration of the Old New Douglas Firehouse.

There will also be kids games and contests, 50-50 drawing, bounce house, and refreshment stand. Krispy Kreme donuts for sale at 7 a.m.

There will also be a gun raffle. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. The gun to be raffled is a Henry Silver Eagle .17HMR rifle. It is No. 784 out of first thousand, retail price is $879. This will be given away on Sept. 12 at the Car Show. You may also see this gun at Sportsman Choice at 311 W. St. John St in Litchfield. They also have a shooting range there.

Two restaurants opening soon

Flyers Grill will be a walk-up and drive-through restaurant. It is set to open in the first part of August this year and will be located at 103 S. Main Street. Flyers will offer a wide variety of menu items including seasonal items.

The restaurant formerly known as Mossie’s will be opening around October, offering American diner-style food.

More details will be announced soon regarding both businesses.

Farmers market has schedule change

Due to a lack of participants this year, the Farmers & Flea market will be on a “to be announced” basis only. To check when the market will be open, visit its Facebook page.

Meals on Wheels driver needed

The New Douglas area Meals on Wheels program is looking for summer substitute drivers. It is generally two or three times a month on a weekday. If you would like to volunteer an hour of your time and bring a smile to our clients, call Linda at (618) 402-1726.

Village president steps down

The Village Board issued the following statement: “Thank you to Randel Winfrey for your time served as village president. From everyone on the board, we wish you a wonderful retirement.”

The next monthly Village Board meeting will be Aug. 17 at the Community Center at 7 p.m. The Village will also have a committee meeting Sept. 7 at 7 p.m., which is open to the public.

Senior Citizens meet

The New Douglas Senior Citizens met on July 14 with lunch at Mary Mueller’s home. After lunch, the meeting was called to order with everyone saying the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord’s Prayer.

Fourteen members were present with two visitors, Marilyn Summer and Terry Mohme. Summer became a new member.

A thank you was given to Mueller for the invitation and use of her home for this meeting.

There were no July birthdays or anniversaries.

The attendance prize was won by Mueller. There was no bingo or 50-50 drawing this month.

The next meeting will be a normal pot-luck lunch held at the Community Center on Aug. 11 at 11:30 a.m.

The Senior Citizens Club is looking for new members. Ages 55 and up. Visiting seniors are asked to stop by on Aug. 11 for a free lunch and bingo at the Community Center. Please consider joining.

NDBC to hold business meeting

The monthly business meeting for New Douglas Baptist Church will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., with worship practice every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Village can provide mowing assistance

Those who are physically unable to maintain areas of their lawns can contact the Village Board for possible assistance. You can reach Barb Bassett at (618) 593-3510.

Community Center Rental

The New Douglas Community Center can be rented for events. Contact Linda Huntsinger (618) 402-1726 to reserve a time.
