Letter to the Editor: Political correctness has made us weak
Dear Editor,
My folks often cautioned that “ignorance is bliss.” Really?
You mean to tell me, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you?” How dumb is that?
However, it seems to me that the powers that be — oh let’s quit being politically correct and call them who they really are, our president and certain members of Congress — either ignore the truth, or are too paralyzed by the truth to act to fix it. We might offend somebody and that somebody might get angry and retaliate with a vengeance as they did in France during the week of Jan. 4, 2015.
When are they going to quit “dumbing down” our rhetoric and start calling a spade a spade? The truth is, political correctness has made the United States and our European Allies 98-pound weaklings in a world of wannabe heavyweights. We have the power. We have the technology. We have the ability to set things right. What we lack is the will, and yes, the leadership, to do it.
It’s shades of Lord Chamberlin and Great Britain in the years leading up to to World War II. The prevailing philosophy was, “Let’s leave Adolph Hitler alone, and maybe he won’t bother us.”
Wrong!
The good ol’ USA was the proverbial cavalry racing to the rescue.
Question: Who will rescue us?
Are you ready for this? ISIS is already here. They are actively recruiting in the U.S. right now. Do I have your attention yet, or do I need a bigger 2 by 4?
If I remember correctly the presidential oath of office has this phrase in it, “To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, so help me God.” That being the case, I say let’s go on with it.
