The first annual “5 Alarm 5K” to benefit the Highland-Pierron Fire Department Explorer Post 9249 will be on Sunday, Sept. 27 at at PIC Park in Pierron.
The 5K will start at 9 a.m., and the Kids Fun Run (ages 10 and under) will start at approximately 10 a.m.
Course will be an out-and-back, starting and finishing at PIC Park.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers overall and the top three male and female in the following age groups: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over. Timing will be provided by Toolen’s Running Start. Prizes will be given to all Fun Run participants.
Event T-shirts will be provided for pre-registered entrants. Race Day and late registrations are not guaranteed a shirt. Sept. 6 is the last day to be guaranteed a shirt
Entry fee is $20 for the 5K, if postmarked by Sept. 6. Late entries and Race Day entries will be $25. The entry fee is $10 for the Fun Run; there are no late fees for the Fun Run. Entry fees are nonrefundable. The race will be held rain or shine.
Packet pick-up will be from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. on race day.
In addition to the races, there will also be fire apparatus tours and a firefighter challenge obstacle course for adults and kids.
The primary goals of the explorer program are to help young adults choose a career path within fire and emergency services and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their community and country. The explorers are able to develop leadership skills, improve self-confidence, learn team building, and to understand the importance of volunteering.
