Family Festival, Bradley Smith Memorial 5K, Citywide Garage sale all set for Saturday in Troy
Troy Family Festival of Fun, formerly the Fall Fest, is completely new this year — and kicked up.
“We are very excited to offer an event with a wide variety of fun,” said Dawn Mushill, chamber executive director. “We have been doing this event for years, but this year, (we) decided to rename it and kick it up a bit.”
The festival, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Tri-Township Park, will include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for middle school students, giant Jenga, a bags tournament, a performance by Mad Science, a Bubble Blast party, an appearance by Fredbird and a human Foosball game.
No prior experience of being a human Foosball player is necessary to play the game. You can sign up your team or sign up as an individual. The games will run every half hour from from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Spaces will be held on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The 3-on-3 tournament is for sixth- through eighth-graders. There is no cost to get into the tournament, and plaques will be awarded for first place. For an application, visit www.troymaryvillecoc.com or call the Chamber office at 667-8769.
Wristbands will be available for $6, which will include unlimited children’s carnival games, a face painter, Ardy the Clown, pony rides, grab-a-dollar cash cage, human foosball and a deluxe obstacle course. One dollar from each wristband sold will be donated to the Troy Lions Club.
Stage performances will feature Paul Jarvis and the Old Barn Boys, a Willie Nelson tribute, and Baywolfe, a variety band. There will also be performances by the Triad dance team, McArther’s Tae Kwon Do, and the Troy Police Department’s own K-9, Zak.
Food will also be available, including pork burgers, Washington Kettle Corn, funnel cakes, barbecue, Chick-Fil-A and much more. Vendors will be on hand with items from a variety of businesses. There are still openings for vendors if you are interested. The cost is $25 per space.
Bradley R. Smith Memorial Scholarship Run
The sixth annual Bradley R. Smith Memorial Scholarship Run will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Tri-Township Park, 409 Collinsville Road in Troy.
The race in named in honor of Senior Airman Bradley Smith, who was raised in Troy and was a graduate of Triad High School. Smith, 24, was killed by a bomb blast on Jan. 3, 2010, near Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
Proceeds from the 5K walk/run will help local students further their education through scholarships.
Registration starts at 7 a.m., and the race will begin at 8 a.m.
The fee for race-day registration is $30. Military recruits may run free of charge with no T-shirt. Registration forms are linked to this story online.
