Residents are advised that the village has recycle bins and polycarts for those that need replacements. Contact the Village Hall, 602 West Main, to request replacements.

Street Banners

The new banners for the village streets are in and will be put up soon. Two styles of banners were purchased. Both are in blue and white, and one has “Alhambra” going down the side. while the other has “Welcome”.

Thanks to the generous donations from the Alhambra Community Club, Alhambra Jaycees and the Highland Baseball/Softball League, a total of 16 banners were purchased. This is also possible thanks to the village employees who put up the brackets and will put up the banners. Thank you, John Mindrup and Duane Take.

Community Club Meeting

Alhambra Community Club met on Monday, Aug. 24 at Maedge’s Restaurant.

Club president John Ernst introduced guest speakers Doug and Trisha Dennison.

Trisha spoke on a support group that they are a members of that encourages people to support the police. She and Doug help by supplying the officers with food and drink when they are on command post duty.

Following the pledge and prayer, Ernst called the meeting to order. A total of 28 people were present. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved.

Under old business, it was brought up that Gail Ohren was able to purchase 16 banners for the village streets. This was all under old business.

Under new business, the Mindrups picked up the melons for the club to sell again this year. They got 80 cantaloupes and 102 watermelons. It was decided to give Ron Mindrup $50 for gas, as he made two trip, and Vernon Mindrup $25 for gas, since he had to take his truck to help haul the last of the melons. The cantaloupes sold quickly, and by Monday evening, the last of the watermelons were gone.

The yard of the month winner was the Bob Plocher home. They will receive a check for $25 from the Community Club. It was decided that this would be the only yard awarded this year, but there would be a Christmas award for the best decorated yard.

Ernst mentioned that the Jaycees were going to do a Fun In the Park Day for the children with activities for the kids. The date for this is Sept. 19.

Meeting adjourned.
