Illinois archers are invited to participate in the 10th annual Big Buck and Doe Archery Contest, co-sponsored by Peep Eliminator and Deien Chevrolet in Trenton. Registration for the contest is open through Sept. 30.
Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: largest buck, $300; second largest buck, $200; third largest buck, $100; and largest doe, $100. There is no entry fee to enter.
Last year, first place in the buck category went to Keith Langenhorst of Aviston. Langenhorst killed an 8-point, 203-pound buck and took home $300. His total score was 333-3/8.
The doe category ended in a tie between Mark Lockowitz of Trenton and Shane Hellman of Carlyle. Both hunters killed 115-pound field-dressed does and won $50 each.
All registering archers must be Illinois residents and have a valid hunting license and tag. Participants must use a recurve or compound bow; no crossbows are permitted, except when used by physically challenged hunters.
Archers must register in person at Deien Chevrolet, located at Illinois Route 160 and New U.S. Highway 50 in Trenton, on or before Sept. 30. The contest is open to archers in Clinton and surrounding counties. Archers must be able to weigh deer in Breese, Illinois.
