Plastic surgeon joins SJH medical staff

Vidya Shankaran, M.D., a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Surgery, has joined the medical staff at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland.

Dr. Shankaran is in private practice as a member of the Lincoln Surgical Associates staff. In addition, Dr. Shankaran holds specialty clinic hours in the St. Joseph’s Hospital Specialty Clinic located on the third floor of the Medical Office Building (MOB) located on the new St. Joseph’s Hospital campus, 12860 Troxler Ave. Highland.

Board certified in 2012 by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Shankaran received her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus, previously completing, with honors, her Bachelor of Arts in Physics at the University of Chicago.

She completed a general surgery internship and residency in the Department of Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., then a plastic surgery residency in the Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, with Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio.

Following her plastic surgery residency, Dr. Shankaran joined Lincoln Surgical Associates in Belleville.

Dr. Shankaran has presented at various professional meetings including at the Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons meetings in White Sulfur Springs, W.Va., Indianapolis and Cleveland; at Surgical Grand Rounds at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood; and at Plastic Surgery 2013: The Meeting in San Diego; and is also a published author.

She is a diplomate with the American Board of Surgery, and previously was on the House Staff Governance Committee for Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and a Resident/Fellow Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
