Alhambra news for the week of Sept. 10

Red Cross Blood Drive

The Alhambra Township will be sponsoring a blood drive on Monday, Sept. 14 at the Firemen & Legion Hall at Alhambra Township Park from 3 to 7 p.m. A photo ID will be needed.

New Trash Service and Recycle Pick-up

The village has recently contracted with Sanders Waste System. As of Sept. 2, the trash and the recycling will be picked up on Wednesdays.

Residents are advised that the village has recycle bins and polycarts for those who need replacements. Contact the Village Hall, 602 West Main, to request replacements.

School News

Grandparents Day is coming up in September and gives the grandparents a chance to have lunch with their little ones. This year, third grade will have grandparents come on Thursday, Sept. 10 and first and second grades will have grandparents visit on Friday, Sept. 11.

The next Center Schools PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Grantfork School.

The Script Card fundraiser will run throughout the school year. These may be used like gift cards and may be purchased for many different stores in the area. The PTO will receive a percentage of each card sold. Contact the school for further information.

American Legion Auxiliary

The Legion Auxiliary will meet on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Alhambra Township Building. Installation of officers will be on the agenda, and a moment of silence will be observed in memory of Betty Volz, who served as the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary when it was formed in 1948.

Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra to host annual run/walk

The fifth annual Hitz Home Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The run will begin in the Market Street parking lot of Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.

Sign-in and packet pick-up will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. The 5K run starts at 9:30 a.m. The 5K and 2-mile walks will start at 9:40 a.m., and the 1-mile Leisure Walk will start at 9:50 a.m.

Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for teens. Children 12 and under can participate for free but must be accompanied by a registered parent or guardian. Strollers are welcome.

The cost of registration on the day of the race is $25. A limited number of T-shirts will be available to purchase for $10.

Prizes will be awarded for first and second places in both the 5K walk and 5K run.
