Child seat check set on Saturday at hospital in Breese

HSHS St. Joseph’s in Breese will host a Car Seat & Booster Safety Check from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 in the hospital’s east parking lot.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will check car seats for proper size and installation and educate parents and caregivers on how to choose and install the correct car seat for their child.

Janice Gebke, a car seat specialist in the hospital’s Women and Infants Center, said a majority of units reviewed at previous events needed adjustments or were expired. Issues included safety seats inadequately secured, facing the wrong direction, in the wrong pathway, recalled or in an accident, child incorrect size or age for the safety seat and/or a child using a seat belt instead of a booster seat.

Those attending should bring the vehicle’s manual and car seat instruction booklet.
