“Paws in the Park” in Greenville to feature pet parade, contests
The Bond County Humane Society will host its 12th annual Paws in the Park on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Patriot’s Park, located at the junction of Illinois Routes 140 and 127 in Greenville.
A pet parade will begin at 10 a.m. at east entrance of park and ends at Main Pavilion. Pre-registration is required and runs from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Cost is $5 per dog. Parade entry fee includes entry into the “Best Costume” contest.
Registration for pet contests begins at 9 a.m., with the competition to start at at 11 a.m. and continue every 20 minutes (plus breaks, TBD). Cost is $10 per dog, which gets registration in unlimited contests, plus a T-shirt (while supplies last). Trophies will be awarded. Contests include: fastest fetch (bring your pet’s favorite fetch item), best kisser, best trick, prettiest pure breed and mixed breed, most sits, longest down, and a dog version of musical chairs.
Other events include:
▪ Pet photos, courtesy of Randalyn’s Photography, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
▪ A police K-9 demonstration at 10:30 a.m.;
▪ Pet nail trimming/polishing, courtesy of Tara Baum Carsrud & Team of Pet Designs Salon, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and
▪ A micro-chipping clinic starting at 1 p.m., with vet services courtesy of Greenville Veterinary Clinic.
There will also be food and beverages, cutest pet photo contest, silent auction, a Lottery ticket raffle, an adoptable animal meet and greet, and children’s activities.
