Highland-Pierron Fire Department to debut new Fire Prevention Demonstration Trailer
Highland-Pierron Fire Department will debut a new Fire Prevention Demonstration Trailer at its annual Sausage & Pancake Breakfast on Oct. 4. The department completed the trailer just in time for Fire Prevention Week, which is recognized during Oct. 4-10.
HPFD contacted Plocher Construction at the beginning of the year to see if the company might have any job-site construction trailers that were at the end of their productive life. In March, HPFD accepted a donation from Plocher Construction of an older trailer, and members have been converting the trailer into a demonstration unit every since.
The trailer offers several safety messages to prevent fires in the home, but will also demonstrate what should be done in the event of a fire. A fog machine can fill the trailer with a light fog to replicate smoke from a fire.
The money used to renovate the trailer came from the department’s fundraising efforts and from donations from several groups and businesses throughout the community.
Besides the trailer, there will also be information on fire prevention, fire extinguisher training, and a chance to view all of HPFD’s apparatus at the upcoming breakfast.
