Devotional: Every life is sacred
October is traditionally observed as Respect Life month in the Catholic Church. It is fitting, then, to take some time to reflect on this most precious gift, LIFE, and how we can safeguard and treasure it in ourselves and in every other person.
First, we must recognize that every life is sacred; every life is worth living, from the moment of conception to natural death. God created each of us out of love in his very own image (Genesis 1:27) and has a purpose for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). We are his very own children, precious and beloved (1 John 3:2)! Every day, then, is an occasion for gratitude and joy. It is another opportunity to see how we can fulfill our God-given purpose, through the help of His Spirit.
Amidst the struggles of daily life, in times of sickness, advanced years or living with physical disabilities, it’s easy to lose sight of how precious life is — one may question the very reason for life at all! It is in these times that we must cling to faith and hope, trusting in the promises and grace of God. God is always near and always cares! On our part, we must allow Christ to work in and through us, conforming us to his image, teaching us to affirm in ourselves and every other person that every life is worth living! May God give us this grace!
