Special Olympics to host chili cook-off, flag football tournament

Special Olympics Illinois (SOILL) is hosting its first annual “Chili Bowl” five-on-five flag football tournament Oct. 10-11 at Trenton City Park.

The two-day event is being held in conjunction with the Special Olympics Illinois Flag Football Development Tournament. Enjoy a chili cook off, live music, concessions, tailgate area, and raffle, along with both tournaments.

Saturday’s fun will include the five-on-five fundraiser tournament featuring local contestants, along a the chili cook off.

Sunday’s event will showcase the skills of Special Olympics Illinois agencies from Southern Illinois in this first annual event.

The public is invited to watch the competition and experience the joy of achievement by Special Olympics athletes. Raffles, concessions and souvenirs will be available both days, and admission is free.

SOILL is seeking teams to play in the fundraiser tournament where two games will be guaranteed. Teams may enter for $200 (maximum 12 players) in the adult (24-plus), college (18-23), high school (14-18) or youth (8-13) divisions.

Entry for the Chili Cook Off is $25 (table, chairs and electric provided). Chili taste tickets will be sold, and the first-place winner will receive $50, plus a chili bowl trophy.

All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes.
