Polka worship set at Lutheran church
Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas will hold a polka worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 featuring Ray Slapak and the Croatian Band. Bratwurst and hot German potato salad will be served following the service. For more information, call (217) 456-7611.
Masonic Lodge plans chili supper
Masonic Lodge 560, 104 Main St. in New Douglas, next to the Post Office, will hold its annual chili supper from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. The menu will include all-you-can eat chili and vegetable soup (all made from fresh vegetable). You also get a sandwich, ham or peanut butter and jelly, a beverage and dessert. Cost is $7.
NDVFD plans fall breakfast fundraiser
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department will have a breakfast fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire house, 105 E. Allen St. in New Douglas. Call (217) 456-6221 for more information.
Halloween Parade
The New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department is needing volunteers and participants for this year’s Halloween Parade. Contact Rachel at rtevis1@hotmail.com to enter a float, donate candy, or volunteer to be a judge or organizer.
Local Meetings
The Senior Citizens Club is looking for new members ages 55 and up. Visiting seniors are asked to stop by on Oct. 13 at 11:30 a.m. for a free lunch and bingo at the Community Center. Please consider joining.
The New Douglas Fire Department meets every Monday (except the third Monday) every month. The department is actively looking for new members. Minimum age requirement to join the department is 18. Contact Chief Danny Robertson at (217) 456-6221 for more information.
The American Legion meets every second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Masonic Lodge meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Community Center
The New Douglas Community Center Hall can be rented for events. Contact Linda Huntsinger (618) 402-1726 to reserve a time.
