Free screening of film on obesity set at Triad

Anderson Hospital, in partnership with Swank Motion Picture,s will have a free showing of the Fed Up film at THS Knight’s Hall on at 5 p.m. on Oct. 15. The event is free and will provide information about America’s rising obesity rate.

Marine Library to hold ‘Pumpkin Wars’

The Marine Library Board will host a “Pumpkin Wars” event from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the library, located at 200 E. Silver St. Children ages 5-10 can decorate a pumpkin to take home. Participants must be from the village of Marine or Marine Township or have a library card. You may sign up at the library or call 887-4634 or (618)520-6551.

St. Jacob Township to provide free flu shots

St. Jacob Township is sponsoring a free Health Fair for residents of the village of St. Jacob and St. Jacob Township. It will be held Thursday, Oct. 29 at the St. Jacob United Church of Christ Heritage Hall, located at 207 W. Main, from 3 to 6 p.m. The Heritage Hall is handicapped accessible.

Free flu immunizations will be given to persons 18 years or older. The flu vaccine will protect against the H1N1 virus. Proof of residency is required.

Other free health screenings will be blood glucose, blood pressure test, heart rate and cholesterol test.

Triad Class of 1965 looking for members

The Triad Class of 1965 is hosting its 50th class reunion the weekend of Oct. 23-24. The committee is still looking for a few classmates, including, Phyllis Cook Shaw, Lois Fedderson Hauschild, Robert Gordon, Terry Harrison, Judith Holt, Kenny Horvath, Karen Johnson, Susan McDowell, Charles Sights, Gloria Spealman Ross, and Larry Wagner. Legion Auxiliary to host chili dinner

American Auxiliary Unit 665 will hold its second annual all-you-can-eat chili and soup dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the St. Jacob Activity Center. The menu includes homemade chicken noodle soup, vegetable beef, potato coup, chili, hot dogs, dessert, and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-10. Kids 3 and under eat free.
