Alhambra-Leef Home Extension to meet

The Alhambra-Leef Home Extension Unit will meet at the Alhambra Township Center on Monday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. The lesson for the evening will be: “Jest For The Health of It, Laugh Aerobics,” given by Gail Ohren and Gloria Hartmann. The hostesses for the evening will be Sharon Payne and Carol Sconyers.

Best Choice Labels and can tabs are still being collected. Visitors are always welcome.

On Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., members will be working on Bears and Linus Blankets.

Fire Department Open House Raffle Winners

Gift cards were the prizes given in the raffle this year. Boys ages 3-7 was won by Reid Burrows; boys ages 8-12, Brice Knackstedt. Girls ages 3-7 was Matty Luitjohan and ages 8-12 was Madelyn Moore. Adult prize winners were Sarah Cline and Gena Hanvey. A gift certificate from Polly’s was won by Howie Eyeman and a gift certificate from Maedge’s was won by Tiffany Gillison.

Salem UCC spaghetti dinner to support mission trip

Salem United Church of Christ, 1117 W. North St in Alhambra, will hold a spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. This fundraiser is to help fund the 2016 Ecuador Mission Trip.

The menu will consist of spaghetti, green beans, salad, bread, applesauce and dessert for $10. The meal may be eaten in the church dining room or taken home. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling the church office at 488-3215 or at the door.

For residents living in Alhambra, dinner may be delivered for a small donation.

Salem UCC Trunk-or-Treat

Salem United Church of Christ, 1117 W. North St in Alhambra, will hold its eighth annual trunk-or-treat event from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 in back parking lot of the church. Children made be dressed in costume and will go from car to car to play games and receive treats. A light meal of hot dogs, chili, chips, cookies and drinks will be provided. Everyone is welcome.

Food pantry needs more room

The Bread of Life Food Pantry is in need of expanding its storage space.

Currently the Food Pantry is located on the campus of the New Life Christian Fellowship in Hamel and is governed by the Alhambra-Hamel Ministerial Alliance serving Alhambra, Hamel and Worden and other nearby communities.

Since 2012 the Pantry has had an increase of 40 percent in the families needing help.

The alliance, with the help of several congregations has raised $5,000, toward the purchase of a new building and needs the communities help in raising the additional $7,000 to attain the amount needed.

The Bread of Life is a non-profit organization, so all donations are considered tax free. Cash donations may be made to Bread of Life Food Pantry or AHMA. Please mark “Building Fund” on the check. Please mail all contributions to: AHMA 1117 W. North Street Alhambra IL 62001

The pantry is open every Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Vendors needed for the Alhambra Health Fair

The Alhambra Health Fair will be held on Friday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Alhambra Township Park in the Firemen & Legion Hall. Vendors that would like to attend may contact Freddie Riepshoff at 488-7603. There is no cost, and the hall is handicap accessible. Tables and chairs will be provided. A complimentary light lunch, juice, coffee and hot chocolate will be provided by the Alhambra/Hamel Ministerial Alliance.

Register for Free Flu Shot

Registration is on now for the flu shots, compliments of the Alhambra Township Board. Call Freddie Riepshoff at 488-7603 to register. You must be a resident of Alhambra or Alhambra Township. Flu shots will be given at the Township Park on Friday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon and in the evening at the Township Center from 5 to 7 p.m.
