Dig through your closets. Send your kids on a scavenger hunt. Gather all the shoes you don’t wear anymore and give them a second life.
Highland Middle School, in partnership with Solea Water, is holding a shoe drive through Nov. 13. The shoes are made affordable by Solea for those in need of protection from abrasions and deadly parasites in the Developing World. Generated funds provide clean water to those who thirst.
All types of shoes are accepted, including new and used, athletic shoes, sandals, boots, heels, dance, and more, as long as they do not have holes in them. Not only do the profits provide clean water around the world, but shoes are kept out of landfills as well.
Shoes can be dropped off at HMS during school hours, 7:05 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information about Solea, check out their web site at www.soleawater.org.
