Livingston man charged in death of 3-year-old

A Livingston man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery to a child in connection with the death of a 3-year-old Gillespie boy in January.

The charges were filed on Oct. 21 in Macoupin County against William R. Bolin, 24.

Bolin is accused of beating Ryder Vercoglio of Gillespie on the head, causing injuries that eventually led to the boy’s death.

According to Illinois State Police, at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 3, emergency medical personnel responded to a residence in the 500 block of Western Avenue in Gillespie for a report of an injured child. EMS found Vercoglio in grave condition. He was transported to a St. Louis Hospital, but died two days later.

Bolin was dating the boy’s mother at the time, and authorities said the his injuries were sustained while he was in Bolin’s custody.

Bolin is being held at the Macoupin County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.
