Halloween Hours

The Village Board has set the Halloween hours for Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 9 p.m. Anyone wishing to have trick-or -treaters come to their house should put their porch light on.

Grantfork UCC to hold sausage supper

The 46th annual Grantfork United Church of Christ Men’s Fellowship Sausage Supper will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 at church’s Educational Building.

The all-you-can-eat supper is served family style and features homemade pork sausage, mashed potatoes and milk gravy, sauerkraut, green beans, applesauce, bread and homemade pies.

Serving runs from 3 to 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12; children 5 and under eat free. Carry-outs are available at adult prices.

Fried sausage and fresh sausage will also be available for purchese.

A Country Corner, sponsored by the United For Others (UFO) group, will have selections of homemade items for sale, such as their homemade apple butter, apple pie filling, jellies, jams, and craft items will also be for sale.

The Women’s Guild will also raffle off a quilt.

Highland Area Christian Service Ministry needs food items

Food items needed at this time are: pumpkin pie mix, canned pie mix (any kind), stuffing mix, cereal (any kind), chili and chili beans, canned peas, Hamburger Helper, any kind of soup. Also needed are facial tissues, toilet tissue and dish soap.

HACSM is located at 900 Chestnut St. in Highland and serves the communities of Highland, Grantfork, Alhambra, New Douglas, Pierron, St. Jacob and Marine. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Phone 654-9295.

Highland Jaycees to host bocce ball, washers tournaments

Highland Jaycees will host a bocce ball tournament and a washers tournament at Grantfork Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The bocce tournament will start at noon and will cost $60 per team. There is a maximum of 16 teams. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place. Attendance prizes will also be give out.

The washers tournament will be impromptu.

Barbecue will be available, and the proceeds from the event will benefit the Highland VFW.

St. Louis Blues and Grantfork Family Night

Grantfork School Family Night at Scottrade Center will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1. St. Louis Blues fans from Grantfork will meet at the school between 1 and 2 p.m. for a group picture and then go to St. Louis for a Blues game. Cost of the tickets will be $30 per ticket and they should be ordered by Oct. 30. Call Grantfork School 675-2200 for further information.

The free Homework Hotline will be manned by SIU students whose area of expertise is in math and will only be a phone call away to help students in fifth to eighth grades. The hotline will be open from through May 6. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. Call (618) 650-3072.
