St. Jacob & Marine News for the week of Nov. 5

Marine PD to host 5K

A 5K fun run will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7 to benefit the Marine Police Department’s K-9, Paco. Police Chief Chris Singleton is Paco’s handler.

The run will begin at 8 a.m. at the Heritage Park, which is located at North Version and Mill Street.

Cost is $25. Registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 6. Register online at runsignup.com/Race/IL/Marine/K95K.

Marine Historical Society to learn about Indians

The Marine Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9 at the Marine Senior Citizens building, 101 Silver St.

Tonya Moore will be guest speaker. She will be talking about Indians, in particular the Ponca and Kiowa tribes. Moore is a registered tribal member of Oklahoma Ponca. She plans to talk about dress and history of the Indians, as well as about modern Indians. She will talk about what Indian outfits mean with displays.

Bill Weder will present the outcome of the recent Hot Air Balloon event, also.

Marine Historical Society meetings are open to anyone who wishes to learn about the past, as well as plans for the future.

The regular meeting of the society will follow these presentations: the Veterans Memorial project, walking tour of Marine project, and tour ideas.

St. Jacob UCC

St. Jacob United Church of Christ’s website is up and running. The church would like someone to be the church photographer, so there can be up-to-date photos on the website and Facebook. Anyone interested, contact Dawn Zobrist at 644-4716 or e-mail at smdz@hometel.com.


The church is again are again collecting food for Holiday Meals at Hoyleton. Bags, donated by Ameren, are available at both churches along with the list of items needed for a Holiday Meal. Dedication of Food Bags will be Sunday, Nov. 8 at both churches.
