Church invites senior citizens to Thanksgiving dinner
In paying tribute to the senior citizens in the community, New Douglas Baptist Church invites all seniors to attend its Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
Dig out old pictures of Thanksgiving days from yesteryear and share them. Also, share stories you remember from some of your Thanksgivings past — be they funny, inspiring, frustrating, etc.

New Douglas Baptist Church events
The Operation Christmas Child box collection and parade will be during the 10:40 a.m. service on Nov. 15.
The Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner will be at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18 at New Douglas Baptist Church.
On Dec. 31 at 7 p.m., NDBC will hold at watch night service. Games, food, and midnight prayer service. Location to be announced.
Senior Citizens meet
The New Douglas Senior Citizens met on Oct. 13 with pizza lunch and sides/desserts furnished by members. After lunch, the meeting opened with everyone saying the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer. Thirteen members were present.
Debbie Young will no longer be able to call the bingo numbers for the group.
Happy Birthday was sung to Hazel Gaston, Nadine Huaschild, and Shirley Barnes. There were no Octotober anniversaries. Bingo numbers were called by Jack Laws. Linda Duckworth had a new game passing gifts around to music. When music stopped, the persons holding a gift were the winners. Winners were Hazel Gaston, Nadine Hauschild, and Peggy Dunn.
Mary Mueller invited the group to have the Nov. 10 meeting at her house. She will prepare the turkey and dressing and members will bring salads, vegetables, and desserts. It was voted to pay Mary for the turkey. Members can meet at the Community Center and carpool from there, as needed. There will also be a Christmas $1 gift exchange at the meeting.
For December’s meeting, it was decided to have the meal catered by Sundae Best, with members furnishing desserts.
3-on-3 basketball tournament set at Rec Plex
A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at the New Douglas Rec Plex Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Games will start at 11 a.m. all three days. Cost is $10 per team ($5 goes to the Rec Plex). Names and money must be turned in by Nov. 21. For more information, call Jeremy or Mike at (217) 456-1069.
NDVFD plans fall breakfast fundraiser
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department will have a breakfast fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire house, 105 E. Allen St. in New Douglas. The all-you-can-eat breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, bicuits and gravy, homemade donuts and drinks. Cost is $7 for adults; $5 for children ages 5 to 10; and children 4 and under eat free. Carry-outs will be available at adult price.
The Highland-Pierron Fire Department will also be bringing its Fire Prevention Demonstration Trailer to the breakfast.

The New Douglas Fire Department meets every Monday (except the third Monday) every month. The department is actively looking for new members. Minimum age requirement to join the department is 18. Contact Chief Danny Robertson at (217) 456-6221 for more information.
The American Legion meets every second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Masonic Lodge meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
