Alhambra News for the week of Nov. 26

First Baptist Church

On Sunday, Dec. 6 at 10:15 a.m., First Baptist Church in Alhambra will have its Children’s Christmas Program.

On Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 10:15 a.m., the choir will have two performances of this year’s musical, which is 2,000 Decembers Ago, a selection of old and new songs interwoven with Christmas classics. This will be followed by a cupcake reception. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call the church office at 488-3025 for further information.

The church will have a Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24.

Alhambra Care Center

Residents at Alhambra Care enjoyed an early Thanksgiving with their families on Nov. 20. Good food and great entertainment made the day special for all.

Salem UCC

A Christmas Cookie Exchange will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6. Bring six dozen cookies, one dozen will be shared, and everyone participating will go home with five dozen assorted cookies. Mail or email your recipe into the office and recipes will be available for all who want them.

Church member will also be Christmas caroling at Hitz Memorial Home at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6.

Hitz Tasting Bee

The Hitz Home Auxiliary Christmas Tasting Bee and Drawing will be on Friday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.

Dec. 8 Band concert for grades 6-12 in the HMS gym at 7 p.m.

Dec. 17 Christmas Program at Alhambra Primary. Grades K-1 will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and grades 2-3 will perform from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Bread of Life Food Pantry looking for donations

The Bread of life Food Pantry serves the families of Alhambra, Hamel and Worden, as well as some of the small communities in the area. With an increase of 40 percent in the number of families in need, the food pantry is in need of a larger building.

The pantry is located on the campus of the New Life Christian Fellowship in Hamel and is trying to raise $7,000 in order to increase the size of its building. Any donations made may be sent to: Alhambra/Hamel Ministerial Alliance or AMHA, 1117 W. North Street, Alhambra, IL 62001. Please put “Building Fund’ on the memo line of the check. All donations are tax deductible.

Deer Meat Needed

For those who like to hunt, but do not want the deer meat, consider donating it to a food pantry. Grantfork Meats will process the meat for the for local pantries at no charge. Contact, Kirby Knackstedt at the meat market at 675-2155.

Alhambra Primary

Christmas

This year, the school will do a Winter Wonderland instead of a Santa Breakfast. This will take place on Friday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This will include a raffle, and each class will make a gift basket with different themes:

The Pre-K class will do “Kids Craft Time”

Kindergarten, “Princess/Super- heroes”

First grade, “Game Night”

Second Grade, “Movie Night”

Third Grade, “Christmas/Winter Fun”

The school Christmas program will be held on Friday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m..

Christmas break: Classes will dismiss at 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, and school will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016.
