Alhambra News for the week of Dec. 3

Residents living at Alhambra Care enjoyed a visit with the Staunton Hardee’s Star (Nick Weber), including Jessie Frey, 101, of Staunton. Everyone had the opportunity to dance to the 1960s music and was given a delicious cinnamon bun, donated by manager Cindy Bone. Christmas decorating will begin soon and then the joy of all the different groups coming in to visit. A 15-minute visit means all the world to a family member. Make someone’s Christmas Very Merry, stop by and say, “Hello.”

The Alhambra Community Club met at Maedge’s Restaurant on Monday, Nov. 30. This was a week later due to a conflict of schedules with Thanksgiving week.

Following the Pledge and Prayer, John Ernst introduced Mrs. Kate Broadhurst as the guest speaker for the evening. Broadhurst spoke of her 20 years in the military and her time with the Highland VFW honor guard.

After the meal, the meeting was called to order with the secretary’s report and the treasurers report. Both were read and approved.

There were 31 people attending this meeting. New members attending are, Bonnie Litton, Lorman Reckman and Sharon Haynes. They were welcomed by everyone. It was voted to make Johnna Ernst an honorary member as is her brother Michael .

Under old business, the supplies for the teacher wish lists were turned in. Lorene Knackstedt asked that those that forgot to bring them to the meeting should drop them off at her house sometime during the week so she could get them to the school by next week.

Orville Mettler sold the most quilt tickets, so he got to draw out the name of the winner. Brianna Knackstedt was the winner of the Community Club quilt.

Under new business, a motion was made to donate $100 to the Hamel Food Pantry to help them raise the money they need to expand. It was mentioned that is giving to the Hamel Food Pantry the club needed to donate the same amount to the Highland Food Pantry. A motion was made and passed to donate $100 to each.

This was the month the club elects new officers, and as the people that held offices were willing to run again, it was voted to keep them in office: President, John Ernst; Vice President, Rodney Knackstedt; Secretary, Winnie Schoen and Treasurer, Shirley Landolt.

Sterling Schoen mentioned the wonderful feed-back he has gotten on the thank-you cards and support of all law enforcement officers.
