Gerald E. “Jerry” Kampwerth, 73, of Highland died on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at Highland Health Care Center in Highland.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father Pat G. Jakel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.

He was born on Sept. 9, 1942 in Breese to John and Clara (Schumacher) Kampwerth. On Oct. 12, 1984, he married Agnes Martha Junker (nee Vosholler). She survives in Highland.

Mr. Kampwerth grew up on the family farm east of Highland. He attended St. Paul School. He started working at Alton Box Board in 1963; he retired in 2005 as fork lift operator. In retirement, he enjoyed caring for his home and large lot. He loved playing cards and bingo. He was a good-hearted man. In his youth, he enjoyed dancing.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Local 1912 of the United Paperworkers International union.

Other survivors include a step-daughters, Norma Jean Hobbs of Highland and Barbara A. (Pat) Shinn of Highland; a step-son, Mark J. (Carol) Junker of Highland; step-grandchildren, Wayne R. “Chip” Hobbs Jr., Starla K. (Howard) Schuchardt, Steve L. (Julie) Vosholler, Justin E. (Tiffany) Vosholler, Michael J. (Megan) Junker, Nikki L. (Shawn) Gurley and Preston P. Shinn; step-great-grandchildren, Hunter W. Schuchardt, Cody M. Schuchardt, Mason Junker-Schrumpf, Mikaela Junker, Marbrie Junker, Trey Evans, Logan Gurley, Vincent J. “Vinnie” Vosholler and Everette Vosholler; brothers, John H. (Mary) Kampwerth of Highland, Robert L. (Darlene) Kampwerth of Highland, James M. (Dorothy) Kampwerth of Highland and Ralph B. Kampwerth of Highland; a sister, Mary E. Haar of Desoto, Mo., and Marietta J. Winkeler of Highland; and sisters-in-law, Anna Jean Kampwerth of St. Rose and Betty J. Kampwerth Head Highland.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died on Sept. 26, 1983; his mother, who died on Oct. 17, 1986; a step-son, Roger L. Vosholler, who died on May 30, 2011; a step-son-in-law, Wayne R. Hobbs Sr., who died on March 9, 2014; step-grandchildren, Tracy A. Hobbs, who died on April 19, 2009, and Ryan M. Junker, who died on July 29, 2012; brothers, Andrew B. Kampwerth, who died on Aug. 21, 2005, Bruno Kampwerth, who died at age 3  1/2 , Jerome J. Kampwerth, who died on Sept. 10, 1997, and Alfred B. Kampwerth, who died on Jan. 15, 2008; a sister, Geraldine Kampwerth (Gerald’s twin), who died at age 3; brothers-in-law, Lewis Haar, who died on April 2, 2007, and Louis B. Winkeler, who died on May 21, 2006; and sisters-in-law, Agnes R. Kampwerth, who died on Sept. 24, 2014, and Irma C. Kampwerth, who died on Feb. 14, 1980.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
