Letter to the Editor: Cygan family thanks first responders

To Highland and Highland-Pierron first responders, we will be forever grateful for your efforts fighting the fire at the home of our parents, Jack and Shirley Cygan.

Your focus and dedication to helping others was very apparent to all of us that tragic morning as you continued to fight back flames and save the neighboring homes. We also appreciate the care, compassion and devotion you showed recovering our parents and supporting us during this most difficult time. We urge everyone in Highland to recognize and appreciate all that you do to stay trained and quickly respond in times of need.

Special thanks to Police Chief Terry Bell and Fire Chief Rick Bloemker, who knew mom and dad, making this response emotionally painful for them as well.

Words can’t adequately express our heartfelt thanks to the volunteer firefighters serving our community, the police that protect us and the ambulance crews always standing ready to serve.
