New Douglas Baptist Church events

The church will be collecting non-perishable items for Christmas baskets. Have your donations dropped off at the church by Sunday, Dec. 20.

The church will celebrate of the Lord and Savior’s birth on Sunday, Dec. 20 services, which will start at 10:40 a.m. The Christmas play will also be held that evening at 6 p.m.

Watch Night Service will be held on Dec. 31 at New Douglas Baptist Church. Services start at 7 p.m. and go until midnight at the church. Join in for a night of fun, food and games. Bring your friends and family. Everyone invited.

Village hosting holiday decorating contest

New Douglas residents: Get your Christmas yards/houses decorated for the season. The village will again be hosting a holiday decorating contest.

“We’ve seen very pretty ones in the past. Get inspired and help make our town shine,” said Mayor June Ridens. “Let your home add to the festivities, no matter how small your contribution may be.”

Display judging will be done between Dec. 16 and 20. Winners receive a plaque engraved with their name and the year.

Local Meetings

The New Douglas Fire Department meets every Monday (except the third Monday) every month. The department is actively looking for new members. Minimum age requirement to join the department is 18. Contact Chief Danny Robertson at (217) 456-6221 for more information.

The American Legion meets every second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Masonic Lodge meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Community Center

The New Douglas Community Center Hall can be rented for events. Contact Linda Huntsinger (618) 402-1726 to reserve a time.
