Latzer Library program aims to get young kids hooked on reading

The Jennie Latzer Kaeser Children’s Library wants to help you prepare your child to be a life-long learner.

You are your child’s first teacher. The Jennie Latzer Kaeser Children’s Library wants to help you prepare your child to be a life-long learner by reading 1,000 books before kindergarten. It’s not as daunting as it sounds. If you read one story at bedtime (and who can stop at one) for three years, you’ve shared 1,040 books.

Reading to your child stimulates language and thinking skills. It builds motivation, curiosity, memory and vocabulary. And it helps children cope during stressful times.

For more information, tips, and to sign up, join library staff on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the library auditorium for the program’s kickoff.
