New Douglas Baptist Church New Year’s eve even

Watch Night Service will be held on Dec. 31 at New Douglas Baptist Church. Services start at 7 p.m. and go until midnight at the church. Join in for a night of fun, food and games. Bring your friends and family. Everyone invited.

Senior Citizens meet

The New Douglas Senior Citizens met on Dec. 8 with a catered lunch by Sundae Best with desserts furnished by members. The table prayer was given by Jim Early.

After lunch, the meeting was called to order by president Duckworth with the Pledge of Allegiance and Lord’s Prayer. Roll-call was answered by 18 members present and five guests (Dennis Pavlotich, LaVaugn Pavotich, Jack Laws, Dale Dodso, and Shirley Seib).

Members brought food for New Douglas Christmas food baskets, which were put together by the Baptist Church.

Peggy Dunn presented a Christmas quiz.

The Bond County Health Department took blood pressures.

Everyone enjoyed a sing-a-long to the music of a harmonica played by Shirley Steib. Happy Birthday was sung to Beverly Laws and Dennis and LaVaughn Povlotich. Happy Anniversary was sung to Jack and Beverly Laws and Mr. and Mrs. Povlotich.

The attendance prize was won by Naomi Blunt. The 50-50 drawing was won by Donna Hosto and Marilyn Sumner. The $5 bingo cover-all was won by Bertha Grindstaff.

The next meeting will be Jan. 12. Yearly dues will be collected at this meeting.

Local Meetings

The New Douglas Fire Department meets every Monday (except the third Monday) every month. The department is actively looking for new members. Minimum age requirement to join the department is 18. Contact Chief Danny Robertson at (217) 456-6221 for more information.

The American Legion meets every second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Masonic Lodge meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Community Center

The New Douglas Community Center Hall can be rented for events. Contact Linda Huntsinger (618) 402-1726 to reserve a time.
