ST. JACOB ELEMENTARY GETS NEW MARQUEE A worker puts the finishing touches on a new electronic marquee in front of St. Jacob Elementary School. The St. Jacob BBQ Society donated $15,586 to the school in November for construction of the new sign. The money represented two years of proceeds from the society’s Jakey in June barbecue festival. Since its inception, the St. Jacob BBQ Society has donated more than $35,000 for various projects in the community. This year’s Jakey in June festival will be June 3-5.

Marine Homemakers to meet

The Marine Homemakers January meeting will be held on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The lesson will be “Making Your Dollars Stretch,” presented by Dawn Dykes and Sandy Gentry. Hostesses for the evening are Sue Vallee and Mary Gross.

St. Jacob Firefighters Auxiliary to host breakfast

The St. Jacob Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary will host a fundraiser breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 17 at the St. Jacob Firehouse.

Advance tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-10. Advance tickets are available for purchase by emailing stjfdladiesaux@yahoo.com.

Tickets at the door will be $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 4-10. Carry-outs will also be available.

Blood drive set at Marine Masonic lodge

A Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Marine Masonic Lodge. Donors will get a free breakfast. If you have questions or to make an appointment, call the Marine Coin Co. at 887-2008.
