New Douglas Rec Plex sets winter class schedule

The New Douglas Rec Plex, 310 South Main St. in New Douglas, has announced its Winter 2016 class schedule.

All classes are eight weeks and will begin the week of Jan. 18 and end the week of March 7.

Fitness Classes

▪ Rise & Shine (16 & Older): Combination of high- and low-impact aerobic and resistance exercises for all levels. Instructor is Elizabeth Loy. Only nine students will be allowed in each class due to equipment. Class will be on Mondays and/Wednesdays from 8 to 8:45 a.m.

▪ Evening Stress Buster (16 & Older): Combination of high- and low-impact aerobic and resistance exercises for all levels. Instructor is Elizabeth Loy. Only nine students will be allowed in each class due to equipment. Class will be on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 7:15 to 8 p.m.

▪ Get Fit, Have Fun Fitness Group (15 & Younger): Class is centered to promote weight loss through aerobics, resistance training and stretching. Instructor is Elizabeth Loy. Only nine students will be allowed in each class due to equipment. Class will be on Thursdays from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m.

Tumbling & Dance Classes

Note: All dance and tumbling classes this session will be practicing for a spring recital, date to be announced later. Ballet or jazz shoes are optional for dance classes, but recommended to execute moves easier, Leotards or form-fitting tank tops must be worn under T-shirts. No jeans or sweatpants. Skirts must have leggings, leotards or shorts worn under them.

▪ Toddler Tumbling (2 to 4 years old): Introduction to basic tumbling utilizing the balance beam, mats and bar in the Toddler Room. Instructor is Jennifer Ruschhaupt. Classes are Wednesdays from 5:30 tto 6 p.m.

▪ Basic Tumbling (5 to 6 years old): Introduction to basic tumbling utilizing the balance beam, mats and bar in the Toddler Room. Instructor is Jennifer Ruschhaupt. Classes are Wednesdays from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

▪ Toddler Dance (3 to 5 years old): Students will learn to follow directions while learning basic tap, jazz, ballet and cheerleading in an informal setting. Instructor is Elizabeth Loy. Classes will be on Tuesdays 6 to 6:30 p.m.

▪ Basic Dance (6 to 12 years old): Students learn basic dance steps and memorization in the studies of ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern and creative movement. Instructor is Elizabeth Loy. Classes will be on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

▪ New Douglas Dance Team (6 to 16 years old): Students must schedule an audition to be allowed in this class. The audition will consist of a three-minute piece the student choreographs themselves. Members of the Dance Team will already have a grasp of basic steps and memorization but need help learning technique in how to put all the steps together. Those on the dance team must be able to perform in events and parades in the area as representatives of the New Douglas Rec Plex. Before each performance a contract will be signed where the student and the parent agree to the rehearsal terms. Instructor is Elizabeth Loy. Classes will be on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

Rec Plex hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Non-Member: 8 weeks for $12

Member: 8 weeks for $10

Regular Adult Prices (16 & Older)

Non-Member: 8 weeks for $24

Children (15 & under)

Non-Member: 8 weeks for $20

Member: 8 weeks for $18

*All prices are per class, per person. There is a 25 percent multiple child discount and a 20 percent multiple class discount.

Scholarship

For children 16 years and younger, there is a Rec Plex Scholarship that will cover the cost of eight weeks of classes in either tumbling, dance or aerobics. The recipients will only be able to win a scholarship twice a year. Those wanting to apply for a scholarship must contact Elizabeth Loy, manager, at (618) 946-7223.
