No community garden for New Douglas
New Douglas has been disqualified from the application for the $5,000 Community Garden Grant.
New Douglas resident Peggy Dunn was the driving force behind the idea of a community garden. Dunn wanted to do it at the Rec Plex through the township, but the board said no last year.
She spent the last year researching grants and brought the proposal to the township again recently. They said she was welcome to try for the grant, and if she got it, she could have her garden and the market.
Dunn said there was less than 1 percent response from New Douglas residents to an online survey regarding a community garden and farmers market.
“This was a disappointing response; but it suggests that this idea is not supported by the members of the community. Therefore, a community garden idea with free produce distribution to members of the village/township will be closed for New Douglas Township residents, because funding was required in order to successfully develop this project. Thank you to all who responded to the survey, your involvement is deeply appreciated,” Dunn said.
Bike trail finished
The bike trail is finished. It’s located near Silver Creek Road, east of town on Rockwell.
