Salem Church Sausage Supper Results

Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra had another wonderful evening for its annual sausage supper this year. A total of 1,038 carry-outs and 1,162 dinners were served to make the total number of suppers sold at 2,200. A special thank you to all who attended and to those who volunteered to work.

Call-in registration to be held for kindergarten

Alhambra Primary School will hold kindergarten call-in registration the week of Feb. 22-26. If you have a student turning five on or before Sept. 1, 2016, he or she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the fall of 2016.

If your child will be a kindergartner at Alhambra Primary, call 488-2200 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (If you live north of Interstate 70, your child should register at Alhambra Primary.)

Any family registering a student will need to provide a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of residency by the visitation date. Kindergarten visitation is scheduled for Alhambra Primary on Friday, May 6. If a student is not registered, he or she will not be involved in kindergarten visitation.

Early Childhood Screening

Free early childhood screenings for area 3- and 4-year-old will be held on Feb. 19 at Highland Primary. Testing will be to determine if a child will benefit by going to the Early Childhood Program or Pre-K. To schedule an appointment, call Mary Korte at 654-2107, ext. 2001. Pre-K students will not have school on this day.

Alhambra Primary

On Friday, Feb. 5, classes will dismiss at 11:50 a.m. for teachers in-service.

The PTO Bowling and Family Night out fundraiser will be held on Feb. 27 at Poplar Junction Bowling Alley. This give those wanting to participate plenty of time to get their teams together. Contact the school for information on cost and number of people needed per team.

Butter Braid sheets have gone out.

After-school Circus Camp is open to grades K-3. This camp will run from Feb. 8-12 and will cost $30 with a limit of 20 children. Each participant will learn a variety of circus skills related to co-ordination, object manipulation, balance and performance. Parents are invited to come to the Feb. 12 camp and watch their children as they show off their skills at their own circus.

There will be no roller skate camp this year.

On Feb. 12, classes will have small Valentine’s parties. Parents are asked to make sure that if your child brings cards or candy that they have something for every child in the class.

Community Club

The Alhambra Community Club met Monday, Jan. 25 at Maedge's Restaurant with 25 members being present.

Club president John Ernst called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. Secretary Schoen read thank-you notes from the Gloria Henschen family, Carol Dauderman family and the Zacszewski family and for donations to the Bread of Life Food Pantry and the Highland Food Pantry.

Principal Cindy Tolbert of Alhambra Primary sent a thank-you note for the supplies the club sent to the individual classes and the class that wanted the clay pots that were sent.

A letter from Boy Scout Tyler Reinhardt was read. He is working on getting his Eagle Scout promotion and is trying to earn $700 to put a concrete bench with a ceramic tile inlaid of a chess board at the park. The club voted to send him $75 toward his project.

The awards for the best Christmas display went to Pat Hinton and Richard and Julie Jett for their wonderful decorations that were put up by Randy Take. The home owners will each receive a check for $25 from the Community Club.

In other business, it was brought up that so far no one has applied for the scholarship. Ashley said she would put the papers up on the restaurant, so they would be available to anyone who qualifies.

Community Club Scholarship

A $500 scholarship is being offered by the Alhambra Community Club. It is open to Alhambra residents who are in a continuing educational program. Applications have been made available at Highland High School, and copies will be hung on the bulletin board at Maedge’s Restaurant in Alhambra. There is less than a month left to turn in the application.
