Students are urged to “turn devices off and turn life on.” This challenge is to get children to turn off their cell phones, computer, video games, hand held games and enjoy the world around them. Students were asked to keep of log for three days of all time spend on electronic devices and bring the log to school.
Feb. 19 is the date the Six Flags logs are to be turned in.
Butterbraid order forms and money should be turned in to the school.
Salem church mission to host BBQ
Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra will be hosting a winter barbecue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 to raise funds to support continuing missions in Ecuador. Cost of the dinner will be $10 per meal, eat-in or to-go orders. The meal will include choice of pork steak or bratwurst, potato salad, cole slaw, barbecue beans and dessert. Call the church office at 488-3215, or buy a ticket from a Mission Team member, or buy a ticket the day of the event at the church.
Community Club to meet
The next meeting of the Alhambra Community Club will be Monday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Maedge’s Restaurant. Visitors are welcome.
Call-in registration to be held for kindergarten
Alhambra Primary School will hold kindergarten call-in registration the week of Feb. 22-26. If you have a student turning five on or before Sept. 1, 2016, he or she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the fall of 2016.
If your child will be a kindergartner at Alhambra Primary, call 488-2200 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (If you live north of Interstate 70, your child should register at Alhambra Primary.)
Any family registering a student will need to provide a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of residency by the visitation date. Kindergarten visitation is scheduled for Alhambra Primary on Friday, May 6. If a student is not registered, he or she will not be involved in kindergarten visitation.
Early Childhood Screening
Free early childhood screenings for area 3- and 4-year-old will be held on Feb. 19 at Highland Primary. Testing will be to determine if a child will benefit by going to the Early Childhood Program or Pre-K. To schedule an appointment, call Mary Korte at 654-2107, ext. 2001. Pre-K students will not have school on this day.
Community Club Scholarship
A $500 scholarship is being offered by the Alhambra Community Club. It is open to Alhambra residents who are in a continuing educational program. Applications have been made available at Highland High School, and copies will be hung on the bulletin board at Maedge’s Restaurant in Alhambra. There is less than a month left to turn in the application.
Fire Department Scholarship
The Alhambra Fire Department is offering a $500 scholarship. Applicants must be living in the Alhambra Fire District and be a graduating senior in 2016. Forms may be picked up at Highland High School, or call John Mindrup at (618) 409-3941 to get the applications. The deadline for applying is April 15. Applications will be assessed and recipient chosen by an independent company.

Sausage Sales correction
It was incorrectly reported last week that Dave Frueh was chairman of the Sausage Supper. It should have been, chairman of the sausage sales. Louie Knackstedt is the current president of the group that sponsors the event.
