Alhambra news for the week of Feb. 25

Alhambra Primary

Registration for children who will be entering kindergarten this fall can be done by phone. Call the school office at 488-2200 and answer a few short questions. In April, parents will receive a letter with details of all items needed for full registration. Kindergarten visitation will be on May 6. Children must be registered to attend.

Salem Church Family Night

Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra will hold its annual Family Night Banquet on Saturday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. Reservations need to be in by Feb. 28 to let the caterers know how many will attend. Cost of the meal will be $7 (ages 4 and under free).

The meal will be catered by Sundae Best. Tickets may be bought from Lorene Uhe and Lorene Knackstedt, or call the church office to reserve your ticket.

Following the meal will be a program put on by the Tree House Wildlife Center from Dow, Ill. They will have some of their rescue birds and small animals.

Boy Scout Spaghetti Dinner

The annual Boy Scout Troop 91 spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held at the Hamel Community Center on March 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the biggest fundraiser for the troop, and the money earned is used to purchase camping gear, Scout awards, and help with the cost of summer camp fees.

Boys from Edwardsville, Hamel, Worden, Alhambra, Grantfork, Pocahontas and Highland belong to Troop 91.

Fire Department Scholarship

The Alhambra Fire Department is offering a $500 scholarship.

Applicants must be living in the Alhambra Fire District and be a graduating senior in 2016.

Forms may be picked up at Highland High School, or call John Mindrup at (618) 409-3941 to get the applications. The deadline for applying is April15, 2016.

Applications will be assessed and recipient chosen by an independent company.
