Masons to hold chili/soup supper
Masonic Lodge 560 is have a chili and soup supper from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Cost is $7 for all-you-can eat homemade chili/soup, plus a sandwich, drink and dessert. Carry-outs will be available.
Fire department holding raffle
The New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department is holding a spring raffle. There will be three winning options, a gun, a bow, and cash. The drawing will be held at 1 p.m. on March 20 at the firehouse, following the spring breakfast fundraiser. Tickets are one for $10 or six for $50. Email newdouglasfire@gmail.com for tickets. You do not need to be present to win.
Churches start new youth group
A new youth group to be started by the churches of new Douglas. The group is for ages 1-18. Gym activities, field trips and more are being considered. Many more details to come. For more information contact George Grindstaff through the New Douglas Baptist Church at (217) 456-6161.
Rec Plex calendar available online

Yetter signs up with fire department
The New Douglas Fire Department’s newest probationary firefighter is Shane Yetter.
“We look forward to teaching and learning along your journey to becoming a firefighter and a college student,” Chief Danny Robertson told Yetter. “Thank you for serving your family, friends and community.”
Fire department to host spring breakfast
The New Douglas Fire Department will hold its fifth annual “Pancakes and More” breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 20 at the fire hall, 105 E. Allen St.
Cost is $7 for adults; $5 for children ages 5 to 10; and children 4 and under eat free. Carry-outs will be available at the adult price only.
The menu will include signature sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, homemade doughnuts and biscuits and gravy, and drinks.
Meals on Wheels needs drivers
New Douglas Meals on Wheels is looking for summer substitute drivers. There would be one or two deliveries per month. Contact Linda Huntsinger to volunteer or to request deliveries at (618) 402-1726.
Easter Egg Hunt
New Douglas Baptist Church will host an Easter egg hunt at the Township Park at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 26. There will be food, drinks and prizes. Children should bring a basket.
Community Center Rental
The New Douglas Community Center can be rented for events. Contact Mary at (618) 541-2259 to reserve a time.
Local Meetings
Senior Citizens Club: The Senior Citizens Club is looking for new members ages 55 and up. Visiting seniors are asked to stop by on Feb. 9 at 11:30 a.m. for a free lunch and bingo at the Community Center. Please consider joining.
Village Board: The next monthly meeting will be Feb.15 at the Community Center at 7 p.m.
New Douglas Township: The Township Board meets every second Thursday at 310 S. Main St. (Rec Plex) at 7:30 p.m.
Fire Department: The New Douglas Fire Department meets every Monday (except the third Monday) every month. The department is actively looking for new members. Minimum age requirement to join the department is 18. Contact Chief Danny Robertson at (217) 456-6221 for more information.
The American Legion meets every second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Masonic Lodge meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
