Highland police warn of phone scam
The Highland Police Department warned Friday that it has received several phone complaints in reference to citizens being contacted by an individual claiming to be with the Department Of the Treasury, or with no identification at all.
The individual advises that if the citizen does not call the number provided back they will be in trouble.
“This is a scam, and you should not call this number, or any other, back or provide any personal information to the caller at any time. The IRS or Department of Treasury will contact indviduals via U.S. mail and never via the telephone,” HPD warned.
Contact numbers that have been left include 347-418-0586, (702) 637-1500 and 702-637-1500, but the scam is not limited to those numbers.
Those who have given personal information out over the phone, should come into the Highland Police Department lobby, 820 Mulberry St., to make a report to protect against possible identity theft.
