Highland area police briefs for the week of March 21-27

Alhambra man faces DUI charge in fatal wreck
An Alhambra man has been charged with driving drunk during a crash that killed a Carlyle woman.
Kelly F. O’Rourke, 39, was charged March 22 in Clinton County Circuit Court with felony aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol. According to court records, the two-car accident occurred around 10 p.m. on March 20 on Emerald Road in the vicinity of the Muskrat Flats Bridge near Keyesport.
Jacqueline L. Rains, 60, of Carlyle was killed. Rains had worked at Walmart in Carlyle. She is survived by her husband, Donald Rains of Carlyle; a daughter, Skye Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
Son charged with beating well-known Madison County attorney
The son of a wealthy 82-year-old Granite City lawyer was charged with beating his father with a broom handle and his fists and choking him last month.
Phillip L. Callis Jr., 47, remains jailed at Madison County under charges of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated domestic battery. The charges state Phillip Callis hit Lance Callis “about the body with his hands and a broom handle” then attempted to strangle his father on Feb 22. Lance Callis is the father of former Madison County Chief Judge and Congressional candidate Ann Callis.
Prosecutors said Phillip Callis has a history of abusing drugs and alcohol and has exhibited abusive, obsessive and controlling behaviors toward his father. Phillip Callis has three felony drug charges since 2000.
Lance Callis has recovered from his injuries, police said, and is back at work.
HPD misdemeanor warrant arrests
▪ Joseph H. Rogers, 27, of Pierron was arrested on March 21 on several warrants. He was wanted by MEGSI for failure to comply with conditions of bail bond. He was wanted in Bond County for default in payment of a fine on a charge of driving while having a suspend license and in Madison County on a theft charge.
▪ Jesse W. Latta, 20, of Collinsville was arrested on March 26 on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was released on a recognizance bond.
HPD misdemeanors, citations, tickets
March 21
▪ Brendan J. Zeisset, 19, of Highland was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
▪ A juvenile, 16, of Highland was charged with operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
March 22
▪ Nathan Oliveira, 23, of Highland was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
▪ Matthew Simmonds, 29, of Pocahontas was charged with improper display of registration and driving while having a suspended/revoked license.
March 23
▪ Matthew J. Heldenbrand, 31, of Highland was charged with criminal trespass. No further information was available.
March 24
▪ Timothy Miget, 37, of Highland was charged with driving while having a suspended/revoked license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
March 25-27
▪ No tickets issued.
