Kyle Deatherage Memorial 5K will run in Highland

The fourth annual Kyle Deatherage Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run will be held at on Saturday, April 16 at Lindendale Park, 1999 Park Hill Drive in Highland.

Cost is $30 for the 5K and $20 for the Kids Fun Run, which is for ages 10 and under. One adult can accompany each child at no additional cost.

The 5K will begin at 9 a.m., and the Fun Run will run after the 5K, approximately 10 a.m.

Top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K will receive a race medal, as well as the top male and female finishers in each of the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. All kids participating in the Fun Run will receive a medal. Awards will be handed out around 10:30 a.m.

Water and snacks will be provided post-race. Packet pick-up will be available on Friday, April 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott Credit Union, 1067 S. State Route 157 in Edwardsville. Packet pick-up and registration will also be available at Lindendale Park in Highland from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on race day.

All race proceeds benefit the Trooper Kyle Deatherage Memorial, which provides monetary assistance to families of first responders who are either killed or severely injured in the line of duty.

Deatherage, of Highland, was an Illinois State Police Trooper. He he was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on Interstate 55 while he was conducting a traffic stop on Nov. 26, 2012, leaving behind his wife, Sarah, and two young children. He was 32.
