Marine Library to hold book sale
A book sale will be held at Marine Library, located at 202 E. Silver in Marine, on Friday, May 20 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. — for one day only. Price is 25 cents per book or fill a plastic bag for $2. Money raised from book sale is used to defer operating expenses.
Rabies Clinics to be held in Marine & St. Jacob
The Highland Animal Hospital will host its annual vaccination clinic on Saturday, May 14 at the St. Jacob Fire House from 8 to 9 a.m., and at the Marine Village Park from 10 to 11 a.m. Madison County residents will be required to pay the registration fee if your pet receives a rabies vaccine.
One-year rabies vaccines for both dogs and cats are $11, plus county registration fee. Three-year rabies vaccines for both dogs and cats are $16, plus county registration fee.
For dogs, Distemper/Parvo vaccinations are $15, and Bordetella vaccination is also $15.
For cats, Distmeper vaccinations are $15, and Leukemia vaccination is $22.
Madison County rabies registration rates are:
▪ one-year registration on pets under 6 months old or spayed/neutered, $10;
▪ one-year registration on pets 7 months and older, not spayed/neutered, $30;
▪ three-year registration on pets spayed/neutered, $25;
▪ three-year registration on pets not spayed/neutered, $65.
Marine Historical Society to discuss Veterans Memorial project, walking tour
The May 9 meeting of Marine Historical Society will be at the Marine Senior Citizens building, 101 W. Silver St. in Marine, at 7 p.m. Dawn Dykes will talk about the Chamber of Commerce and how it can help organizations.
The regular meeting of the society will follow this presentation. Some things that need discussing are the Veterans Memorial project, walking tour of Marine, T-shirts, the Schaefer building, bounce house for the balloon event, and fundraising.
Marine Historical Society meetings are open to anyone who wishes to learn about the community’s past, as well as plans for the future.

Marine UCC trivia night to benefit Hoyleton Ministries
Marine United Church of Christ will host its 15th annual trivia night Saturday, April 30 to support the mission of Hoyleton Ministries.
The evening promises to be another fun-filled evening of challenging trivia, door prizes and more. The cost is $12 per person (eight players to a table) or $96 for a team/table. The event will be held at the church, located at the intersection of Center Street and Illinois Route 143 in Marine.
There will also be a raffle fir an iPad Air, Fitbit Charge HR and Amazon Fire TV Stick. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20.
“Those that can’t attend the trivia night can still support the church’s efforts by purchasing raffle tickets for a chance to win one of three great prizes,” said Marine UCC Pastor Phil Kershner.
The top two winning trivia teams will also receive a prize.

St. Jacob UCC Youth Group to hold rummage sale
The Youth Group at St. Jacob United Church of Christ will hold a rummage sale May 5-7 at the church.
Hours for the rummage sale are from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5; from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 6; and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 7.

Strawberry Festival is May 15
St. Jacob United Church of Christ will hold its annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, May 15 at St. Jacob Township Park, 239 W. Main St.
The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include music, crafters, jump houses and children’s entertainment and food. On the menu will be brats, hot dogs, chicken kabobs, and of course, strawberry desserts.
Trailnet will also sponsor a bicycle ride. Registration is now open and can be done online at trailnet.org. The price for the ride online is $11 members and $16 for non-members.
There will also be registration on the day of the ride, from at 7:30 to10 a.m. Day-of registration is $15 for members and $20 non-members). Kids are $6, either way.
The entertainment lineup will be as follows:
▪ 10 to 11 a.m., Paul Jarvis;
▪ 11 noon, Circus Kaput;
▪ Noon to 1 p.m. Spirit Brass;
▪ 1 to 2 p.m., Rainbow Bluegrass Pickup Band; and
▪ 2 to 3 p.m., Sheltered Realty National Leadership Drumline.

The spring community yard sales will will take place Thursday, May 19 through Saturday, May 21.
