Community Garden to host ribbon cutting

The New Douglas Community Garden & Market will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on May 26 at 3:30 p.m. Rec Plex.

The grant for this program is from Madison County's Planning and Development Sustainability Program and is the first awarded for a project like this that includes the garden, the village outdoor market, rain barrel program, and an education program for children in the garden.

Town Yard Sales

New Douglas Town Wide Yard Sales will be held Saturday, June 11. More details to be provided at a later date.

Churches start new youth group

A new youth group to be started by the churches of new Douglas. The group is for ages 1-18. Gym activities, field trips and more are being considered. Many more details to come. For more information contact George Grindstaff through the New Douglas Baptist Church at (217) 456-6161.

Rec Plex calendar available online

The New Douglas Rec Plex calendar is available on their Facebook page. Included on this calendar is a complete set of dates available for the use of the gymnasium, park pavilion and baseball diamond. Visit https://www.facebook.com/NewDouglasTownship for all inquiries as well as (618) 946-7223.

Meals on Wheels needs drivers

The New Douglas Meals on Wheels program is looking for substitute drivers for the summer. Currently, there are five very dedicated drivers that need a bit of a break. Just by volunteering once or twice a month helps out tremendously. Call Linda at 618-402-1726, or send an email to Linda.hunsinger@gmail.com. Community Center Rental

The New Douglas Community Center can be rented for events. Contact Mary at (618) 541-2259 to reserve a time.

Local Meetings

Senior Citizens Club: The Senior Citizens Club is looking for new members ages 55 and up. Visiting seniors are asked to stop by on Feb. 9 at 11:30 a.m. for a free lunch and bingo at the Community Center. Please consider joining.

Village Board: The next monthly meeting will be Feb.15 at the Community Center at 7 p.m.

New Douglas Township: The Township Board meets every second Thursday at 310 S. Main St. (Rec Plex) at 7:30 p.m.

Fire Department: The New Douglas Fire Department meets every Monday (except the third Monday) every month. The department is actively looking for new members. Minimum age requirement to join the department is 18. Contact Chief Danny Robertson at (217) 456-6221 for more information.

The American Legion meets every second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Masonic Lodge meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
